Krabi is as picturesque as the postcards make it out to be
Arriving at the bus terminal in Krabi I heard myself saying 'umm.. this is Krabi?' (note: bus terminal is not near the beach). Did as much damage control as possible as we got hustled and ripped off by a taxi driver that saw dollar signs in his eyes. Over the last few years Adam has taught me to be a much sweeter and nicer me. But being a bitch, negotiating hard, walking away from a bad offer, and laughing rudely in people's faces comes all too naturally (sorry mommy, I know you tried). Got to a reasonable price on a cab and headed to the main drag in aonang beach.
Our hotel was a bust (ie trip advisor said it's the #1 top rated spot in krabi... yet I cant figure out why...) so I said 'Mai krap kob kun krap' (no thanks!!!) and went to find a new hotel. I learned two things:
1. I now understand why you need a backpack and not luggage. it's easy getting around with it and you can just up and leave (whether it's up and leaving Bangkok or up and leaving a crummy or crap-ee hotel in krab-i).
2. You don't need to book hotels in advance in Asia and showing up and asking to inspect the rooms (and I may as well have packed a magnifying glass with the way I would inspect the rooms)...is perfectly acceptable.
anyway we found a new place, easy since it's low season, right in the center of aonang and with an ocean view room. hello paradise right out my window.
jumped on a 15 min long tail boat to railay beach (ie one of the most scenic beaches). There was a gorgeous resort right on the water with a beautiful pool. I noted the room # of a bungalow at the resort as I settled into a lounge chair on a white sandy beach of paradise next to the pool with my book and a cocktail. When the staff gave me a threatening 'pool is for guests only' warning I casually told them I was staying in room 9007. Perfect.
Lounged for several hours as a huge black cloud made it's way to railay. we got caught in a rainstorm and jumped on a long boat back. the rain was gorgeous, hitting the water like a beautiful drum and the tall cliffs of krabi were outlined with misty clouds and lightning. I laughed as I got soaked (the rain came down harder than some of the water pressure we got in our hotel showers).. ran to my hotel getting completely soaked. I stood in front of the hotel stripping down to my bathing suit and laughed as I rung out my clothes.
A warm shower, an amazing dinner, and a few hours later decided it's time to get out of krabi. Stopped at a travel agency and bought some bus and ferry tickets. Tomorrow: Koh Samui!
