doing nothing in bangkok... and loving it.

I've been to Bangkok once before with my family and really enjoyed it- and I'm loving that this time around I get to enjoy it in a different way: Nightlife, sitting around at posh hotels, working out at the gym and going to the pool, riding around on motorcycle taxis and not really doing any touristy sight seeing.. it's been an awesome way to play and relax in a fast paced city. I will admit that being on a 'backpacking trip' but not being on a 'backpacker budget' is a luxury. I try to save a buck sometimes and if I don't it's not a big deal. And sometimes I'll book a five star hotel for a couple nights.. can't wait for that one in koh samui (http://www.melatiresort.com) ;)

Did a lot of nothing yesterday. Attempted to find sports gear at the mall for the upcoming bike trip. You can find everything (and the knockoffs of everything) you could possibly want at the malls here (except anything sports gear related). No success on finding gear so we went to Health Land- a tip we got from Andrew Yee's friend. it's 'where the locals go for Thai massage'. Imagine an 8 story gorgeous hotel turned into a huge wellness space. You 'check in' like you're at a hotel and they take you to a room (we got a room with two mats and got to lay side by side while getting a 2 hour massage. We were supposed to wear these special outfits for our massages and I couldnt figure out how to put it on. The woman had to come back in and dress me- I laughed so hard I cried as I stood there in my underwear. This high class place cost us $15 each for our massages. Basically we paid 1/10 of what it would cost for a couples massage at Burke Williams Spa in San Francisco. drank a few cocktails at a high end bar (that cost us just as much as the massages) and called it a night.
